Dr. Tamer Saka, our Chairman of Board of Directors, became a guest in the Pasaport program that was aired on Friday, 5 February, and that addressed Climate Change.

Appearing as a guest in the program hosted by Mete Çubukçu, Saka provided information in terms of the position of the cement sector in the issues of Climate Change, EU Green Deal, and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

Saka said, “A fast development concerning the green framework that aims at the year of 2050 was experienced. Hence, Turkey severely needs a policy approach that will present its position on the basis of sectors in this issue. I can say the works on this issue have started.”

Expressing that the European producers who aim to be carbon neutral through their carbon capture/storage investments are at the same time carrying out works for the consideration of the fact than concrete naturally absorbs carbon dioxide emissions, Saka said, “With the carbon pricing put into practice in 2009, a particular right of allocation was granted to European producers. The producers created additional income by selling a certain part of those allocations.

Now, they want the enactment of the “Carbon Tax At Borders" system, as the transition to the Phase 4 Emission Trade system will start. We underline that those methods will not bring along success and that Europe and Turkish producers must collaborate. We recommend a business model where European and Turkish producers work together.”
