TÜRKÇİMENTO’s Betonart Architecture Summer School 2026 Program Begins
11 Mayıs 2026
Organized annually by TÜRKÇİMENTO for architecture students, the Betonart Architecture Summer School will explore the discipline of architecture in 2026 through the theme “Standard Deviation.” The program will take place in Elazığ between June 29 and July 7, hosted by the Faculty of Architecture at Fırat University, bringing together young architecture students, academics, and design practitioners.
Sponsored by Çimentaş and Seza Çimento, the summer school aims to open up discussion on the tension between standardization in architecture and local, site-specific production.
The curator of the Betonart Architecture Summer School 2026 program is Architect Can Tamirci. The summer school will be moderated by Architects Melike Kavalalı, Kadir Uyanık, and Architect/Engineer Doğan Türkkan. The coordination team includes Architect Ali Fatih Cebeci and Architect Mehmet Ali Yiğit, while Dr. Architect Ferhan Yalçın will serve as advisor throughout the process.
While the term “standard deviation” in mathematics refers to the extent to which values in a system diverge from the average, in architecture the concept highlights local explorations and unique forms of production that move beyond normative frameworks.
Emphasizing that the diversification of production processes—particularly through the growing influence of AI-supported design tools—has redefined the architect’s role not only as a designer but also as a selector, director, and interpreter, curator Architect Can Tamirci commented on the theme as follows:
“Standard deviation is an opportunity for architecture to reposition itself. The true potential of architecture emerges precisely in exceptional situations, in its unique relationships with place, and in solutions that resist repetition.”
The workshops, talks, and production processes to be carried out within the program will enable participants to develop contextual approaches through considerations of place, climate, material, and user relationships.
Betonart Architecture Summer School 2026 is preparing to offer an important platform where the relationship between standard and exception in architecture will be reconsidered, enriching the production practices of young designers. Applications for the program will close on May 19, 2026.
